The event, planned to take place earlier in the summer, had been hampered by bad weather and had, unfortunately been postponed a couple of times. It was, therefore, unusual to be heading out to a summer event in the pitch dark, followed by thick mist.
As we crossed the border into Scotland, it wasn’t just the sign on the motorway offering us a welcome – the people of Dumfries were super warm and friendly.

The organisers, Cheryl and Laura, had the whole event running like clockwork – starting at 10am with a Scottish piper and an official opening by the Provost.

A large number of stalls and events were situated around the square, including axe throwing!
The forecast rain held off until much later in the day and we had a stream of shoppers stopping by for a chat and to play, and thankfully buy, some of our instruments.
The Upper Crust Deli did not disappoint with the promise of the best sandwiches in Dumfries and their hot chocolate certainly kept the cold at bay – followed by delicious hot doughnuts from the Donut Hut.
We certainly look forward to returning to Dumfries in the future and have also been asked to attend a steampunk event in Kirkcudbright so, watch this space!!
